Barn Doors will help you sleep a bit longer.

I believe it's safe to say that 70% of our barn door applications fall in the category of Master Bedroom to Master Bathroom. The question that we hear over and over again is....... "why didn't my builder put a door between the master bedroom and bathroom. Not sure...... maybe the builder figured that both husband and wife were going to wake up at the same time, neither ever wanted to sleep in a bit or neither ever wanted privacy. Who knows!, but we have the answer. The above photos are of a barn door we just installed today 12/12/14 in that very application. we built this door in a weathered gray barn board, our 3-Rail Planked style and it was hung on our flat black iron track using our Classic 4" Ball Bearing Wheel for very smooth and quiet operation.
Visit us on-line at www.thebarndoorstore.com or contact us at 480-688-3820. We aren't doctors, we're barn door builders, but we have the answer for you to get a little extra sleep and occasional privacy!

Horizontal Planked Blend WOW!

The above "Horizontal Plank" barn door we made using a blend of gray tone and natural earth toned stained planks. This home leans on the contemporary side of interior design, with a few natural element strategically placed throughout the space - adding just the amount of warmth. This room is adjacent the kitchen and this family is opting to use it as a theater room for their teenage children. Not only does the door compliment the space from a design perspective, but will be a wonderful sound insulator. We manufacture our barn doors at 2 1/4" thick and with wood being a great insulator, the cranked up surround sound will no longer disturb additional family members in the kitchen or adjacent family room. A Perfect solution for Bedroom to Bath

One of our most popular Barn Door applications is the opening between the Master Bedroom and Master Bathroom. Traditional doors just don't work in this area as if the door swung in it would most likely consume valuable bathroom wall space and if the door swung out into the bedroom it would take up wall space that is meant to be used for a piece of furniture. Not to mention the Lack of Privacy by not having a door on the master bath entrance. Does this all sound too familiar? Give us a call, we are located in the Scottsdale Air-Park and would love to hear from you. www.thebarndoorstore.com

Equestrian Manor Barn Doors

Hand Made in Scottsdale, AZ thebarndoorstore.com
Our most recent barn door build and installation brought us to an adobe Spanish style home in the North Scottsdale private community of Equestrian Manor. For this application the homeowner wanted to have the ability to close off the east wing of her home which is adjacent to the formal living room. She expressed to us during our initial meeting that she wanted the flexibility to close off the east hallway which led to her children's bedrooms to create privacy for the living room. The doors we built (shown to the left) were very traditional sliding barn doors. The planks had a tremendous amount of distressing and age marks which fit right in with the hand made Spanish style furniture and appointments throughout the home. We finished the doors with a hand rubbed oil based stain in a rich mahogany tone, again coordinating with the Spanish furniture and decor'. To the right of the door, on your right is an adobe beehive fireplace which created space limitations for the right hand barn door to fully slide open and away from the doorway. Because of the space limitation from the fireplace, we created a bypass sliding barn door hardware track which allows the doors to pass over each other and stowed to the left of the opening. How to calculate what size barn door you need.

In the document to the left we have illustrated the correct way to figure out what size barn door you will need to properly cover your doorway opening. If your doorway has door casing (trim) around the perimeter and you want your barn door to cover the casing when it is closed, measure the width from the outer edges of the casing. We suggest, as stated in the illustration, that 2 inches is added to the opening width and height when calculating what size barn door you will need. Using this method, you will maximize privacy and sound insulation from one room to the other when the barn door is closed. In order to properly "park" (fully open) your barn door, you must have wall space on either side of the opening that at least equals the width of the barn door. If you have any questions in figuring what size barn door you need, feel free to contact us at info@thebarndoorstore.com. We are located in Scottsdale, AZ and would be happy to visit your home for a measurement and estimate.

A loft at the Summit in Copper Square

We just installed this pair of horizontal planked, custom barn doors in a loft at The Summit in Copper Square. In keeping with the contemporary, industrial design theme of the loft we added polished steel trim to the perimeter of the doors, front and back. We also kept the sliding barn door hardware wheels and arms in the natural steel finish which tied in perfectly with the exposed duct work throughout the loft. Our showroom is located in the Scottsdale Air-Park contact us at 480-688-3820 or visit us on-line at www.thebarndoorstore.com

The warmth of wood with a hint of metal

Chad King (left) applying a medium polished steel trim to these horizontal planked Barn Doors we custom made for a downtown Phoenix loft. This pair will be installed over an opening between a den and kitchen in the loft. The loft's style is a mix of wood tones and industrial metal accents complete with exposed duct work which was our inspiration for the polished steel trim on the doors. We manufacture 8 standard barn door styles, but welcome the opportunity for you to bring us your custom barn door inspirations. Exterior Barn Doors too!

We manufacture exterior barn doors for barns and out buildings too! While about 90% of our business is manufacturing custom and semi custom sliding barn doors for residential interiors, we do manufacture exterior barn doors as well. The construction of the exterior barn doors is the same as the interior barn doors however; we do a couple of things differently when the barn doors will be outside. First off, we apply a marine grade exterior clear coat sealer over the stained finish. This sealer will protect the finish from the exterior elements and has a "non yellowing", "Ultraviolet" protection additive. Secondly, we install a 2" rubber flap gasket (weather stripping) similar to the one on the bottom of your garage door. This helps to protect the exterior elements from the interior of the barn or out building. The image above is a pair of barn doors we recently built and installed for a North Phoenix customer who built an out building on his property which will be a grand workshop and ATV garage. Please visit our website at www.thebarndoorstore.com or send us an email at: info@thebarndoorstore.com  We welcome the opportunity to discuss your barn door project with you. Our showroom and barn door shop are located in Scottsdale, Arizona in the Scottsdale Air-Park at Hayden Road and Raintree Drive. "We look forward to speaking with you!"

Our Features Become Your Benefits!

Experience The Barn Door Store Difference

At the Barn Door Store, we pride ourselves on handcrafting quality barn doors that are intended to last for years and years. In the above illustration we have spot lighted some of the standard features you can expect when purchasing a sliding barn door from The Barn Door Store. Compare the thickness of our doors at 2 1/4" compared to some of the other barn doors in the industry. Wood is a great insulator and sound deadening material and we feel that should be capitalized on when dividing off a room with a barn door. We also apply the style and rail trim to both sides of the door. So, no matter which side you are look at, front or back, the door will have the same detail and beauty. Notice we apply a beveled edge to each plank which gives the door an added detail and allows each plank to stand alone with its own character. When it comes the the forging of our sliding barn door hardware, only the finest materials are used in our metal shop. Our wheel arms and slide rails are made from solid 1/4" forged steel. We believe "Our Features Become Your Benefits" We are located in Scottsdale, Arizona in the Scottsdale - Airpark. Feel free to visit our Showroom, Barn Door Woodworking Shop and Metal Shop. Barn Doors with Speakeasy's

We are now offering a "Speakeasy" option with any of our standard and custom style barn doors. The speakeasy originated as a convenient way for farmers to feed their horses by opening a small portion of the barn or stall door and hanging a feed bag under the opening. The concept then evolved to being used on front doors of residential homes as a way of viewing who was at the door without having to actually open the door. We started to offer the speakeasy option after we had a request from a customer to build a pair of 62" wide X 85" tall sliding barn doors with traditional speakeasy's. In addition to our speakeasy option, we have really cool hardware that goes along with the speakeasy concept. In the photos above we have showcased a few. Please contact us with your questions related to our custom made sliding barn doors and barn door hardware. Our manufacturing facility and showroom are located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Send us an email at: info@thebarndoorstore.com or 480-688-3820. We look forward to hearing from you!

The Solution for Tight Situations!

Is the top of your doorway close to the ceiling? Did you think you were not able to install a barn door in that tight space? We have the solution! In the application below we installed a sliding barn door between a master bedroom and bathroom that only had 5" between the top of the doorway and the ceiling. We used a smaller header system and a smaller diameter wheel to accommodate for this challenge. We the installation was complete, we had set the door 1/2" away from the ceiling and left 3/8" from the floor to the bottom of the door. If you have a challenging barn door installation situation, give us a call. Chances are we have a solution so that you can install the barn door of your dreams.

Tucson, Arizona Catalina Foothills Barn Doors

3-Rail Planked with Eyebrow Arched Top at Master Bedroom / Bathroom

August 28, 2014 in Beautiful Tucson, Arizona.

We had the pleasure to work with the owners of this wonderful Catalina Foothill Estate in Tucson, Arizona. We designed and manufactured a very large sliding barn door with the same eyebrow arched detail as the pass through arch it hangs in front of. This barn door was to separate the large master bedroom and bathroom (pictured top left). By installing this barn door we instantly gave the room more privacy from the grand master bath and adjacent home gym. Most importantly, the master bedroom feels very cozy and charming when the barn door is closed. Our next challenge was to tie in the master bathroom with a pair of barn doors over the grand entry to the master closet. This custom pair of 48" wide X 7.5' tall Three Rail Planked Barn Doors certainly made a grand statement in the master bathroom.
3-Rail Planked Barn Doors at a Master Closet entry in Tucson, Arizona

We ran the matching barn board header the full length of the bathroom wall to give the home owner to position the doors anywhere on the wall when the doors are in their open position. Many of our customers think of our Barn Doors as "Functional Art" and this will certainly prove to be true in this master bath and the doors can slide to any position along the 172" long rail system mounted on the wall.

JUST LAUNCHED! Mission Style Barn Door

Scottsdale, Arizona July 9, 2014. We just launched our "Mission Style" Barn Door (shown left) to nicely blend with the Spanish architecture found throughout the Southwest. We still build the door with it's traditional vertical barn board planks and three horizontal rails, but we have added an "eyebrow" arched detail to the top rail. This "soft arched" detail gives the door a sense of Old World Spanish charm.

Shown in the photo to the right you can see the pair of "Mission Style" Barn doors closed which now add much needed privacy between this master suite and bathroom. A Barn Door at The Beach

The Perfect Appointment for this charming Dana Point, California Beach Cottage

was one of our 3-Rail Plank style sliding barn doors. The 954 sq. ft. 1960's built beach cottage not only exudes the charm you would expect from its setting and era, but with a price tag of $650+ per square foot, space is a premium. The master bath also served as the guest bath off of the small kitchen. Because of this bathroom's dual purpose it had two entrances - one from the kitchen and one from the bedroom. Because of its design the doors from each entrance not only hit each other when opened, but consumed valuable space within the bathroom. We removed the traditional door from the bedroom entrance and hung this barn door (pictured above) in its place. The sliding barn door not only solved the space congestion challenge, but added to the overall charm of the cottage. We manufactured this door in our traditional vertical plank style with 3 rails (top, bottom, and middle) to stay in theme with the simple, clean lines of the overall architecture found throughout the cottage.

We used our classic wheel (4" diameter) mounted on a straight arm bracket and 6 foot track, finished in a satin nickel finish. Again, keeping the style simple and the finish nautical. The complete package for this featured door and hardware system was $985 + Installation. If you would like more information about a Sliding Barn Door for your Home or Office, please visit our website at www.thebarndoorstore.com or send us an email at info@thebarndoorstore.com. We manufacture our barn doors and sliding barn door hardware in Scottsdale, Arizona and ship nation-wide.

Horizontal Plank Style Barn Door

Our Horizontal Plank Style Barn Door

Scottsdale, Arizona June 18, 2014 5:40 P.M.

We  designed and manufactured this horizontal plank style barn door specifically for an "Old vs. New" design theme in a Paradise Valley, Arizona estate home. The interior space is beautifully appointed with "Old" family heirloom furniture pieces and wool rugs which adorn the space with traditional tones of blues, reds, and cremes. heading in the other direction of "New" the flooring was done in a porcelain wood (style) planked floor in a chocolate brown and creme palomino pattern. The "New" also speaks to you from the creme limestone tiles, cleanly set in a brick stacked pattern on the fireplace and set into the front entry with the palomino floor. When we were commissioned to design and build a barn door (above) for this space we took careful note to tie the "Old and New" themes together. The "Old" was expressed through the heavily distressed barn board planks we chose to build the door. The horizontal placement of the planks was purposeful to allow for very clean, straight forward lines to coordinate with the way the limestone was set on the fireplace adjacent to the barn door. When we designed the sliding barn door hardware system we used iron straps to support the 4" trolley wheels, but span the full length of the eight foot door. Again, this element was used to create another clean, linear feel from the door.
Upon completion of installation, our barn door blended into the space and looks like it has been there for 100 years.

Our Most Popular Barn Door Application

The Barn Door Store Crew on an install

Our Most Popular Barn Door Application!

Continues to be the open entrance (generally an archway) between the master bedroom and master bath. This is a perfect application for a sliding barn door as a traditional door that swung in or out would consume too much wall space. Pictured here The Barn Door Store Crew is installing a big 9 1/2 foot 3 rail plank style barn door that we custom built for this opening. We finished the door in a "Ebony" stain and applied 2" Clavos (Spanish nail Heads) to the door to play on our clients Spanish Colonial furnishings. We hung this door using our Vintage Style rolling barn door hardware kit which includes six spoke barn door wheels. The hardware was finished in our "Dark Bronze" finish which added an unexpected detail to the door.
