This was an awesome project! The owner of this former small warehouse building converted it to a live / work / studio. He needed a sensible solution to separate the large work / studio area from the living area. These barn doors (above) we manufactured and installed were the perfect application to divide the space.

An "Undefined" Inetrior Space Becomes "Defined"

Old Town Scottsdale Condo is the new home for this Plank Style 3 Rail Sliding Barn Door

We had a customer call about a week ago whom had his Old Town Scottsdale condo on the market. The challenge that his real estate agent was having with the listing was a small undefined room off of the kitchen. I say undefined because the room is very small, not big enough for a third bedroom or den, but a mere 8'X8" nook with no door, just a finished opening in the wall. Our customer felt that if the space could somehow become more defined potential buyers would visualize how they could use the space. We recommended a sliding barn door as a traditional door would take up extra wall space in the room when it was open. The door shown to the left is what we manufactured for the opening which is 48" wide and 82" tall. This door was finished in a similar stain tone to match the wood floors in the condo. The sliding barn door hardware and track system was in a dark bronze finish. This application not only provided distinct functionality to what was almost an un useable space, but added tremendous charm and uniqueness to this little two bedroom condo. We recently learned from our customer that the condo sold 2 weeks after ordering the door and the new home owner will use what was a challenged space for his new home office.

Barn Doors in a Law Firm?

We received a call a few weeks ago from an attorney who had recently purchased an old warehouse style building in downtown Phoenix. He renovated the space to be used for his law firm offices. The overall concept and theme of the space was to respect most of the warehouse architecture and create an office with wide open spaces for his staff of about 14 employees. Each employee has their own private desk and work space, but the challenge was dividing the conference room and employee lounge for privacy and making them quiet spaces segregated from the rest of the working environment within the open office. In addition to the above, our client wanted to respect the warehouse theme and architecture when dividing the space. SLIDING BARN DOORS were the perfect solution for this application. The "Big Barn Door" pictured to the above left will be used to divide the conference room from the open work area. The "Pair of Sliding Barn Doors" pictured to the above right will be used to divide the employee lounge from the open work area (one will be fixed and one operable). Finally, these doors will receive a hand applied stain in a dark walnut finish and the authentic style rolling barn door hardware will be in a dark bronze finish. All of our sliding barn doors are custom and made to order in our Scottsdale, Arizona facility. We use ponderosa pine barn board planks that is hand scraped and wire brushed to expose the wood's natural character. Both our authentic designs and craftsmanship have full regard and respect for the way these doors were built 100's of years ago, right down to the wood peg fastener system we use in assembly.

Our X-Brace Style Barn Door

We had a customer call in to the shop today and would like a pair of X-Brace Barn Doors (shown in the picture to the left) to hang above a 60" wide opening to her Den/Office. After we chatted on the phone a bit to discuss the door finish which will be an Ebony Stain and the finish for the Sliding Barn Door Hardware System which will be in Flat Black, she asked me if she could possibly have them installed by........ Thanksgiving!! I told her that I would see what I could do as this is typically a very busy time of year for us and this certainly holds true for this year. I got off the phone and happened to mention her circumstances to some of the One King Street / Arizona Barn Door team members. Before I knew what was happening planks of Ponderosa Pine were being run through the plainer and saws were ripping. These guys are going to have these doors built and installed by Thanksgiving. That's just how we roll at Arizona Barn Doors.

Barn Doors with a Modern Flair

Sliding Barn Doors can be Contemporary too!

This pair of barn doors currently being manufactured in our shop will have some what of a modern styling. The doors will fit over an opening that is 68" wide and 100" tall. Our client wants the door to look like a pair of barn doors, but functionally to be one big sliding door. Our design calls for us to build the doors in two halves and then assemble with a large tongue and groove joint. When we assemble the T&G joint, we will leave a slight reveal to give the illusion that a pair of barn doors is hanging rather than one large door. These doors will be finished in a high lacquered white finish which will lend itself to the clean, modern, loft setting they will call home. The sliding barn door hardware will be in a flat black finish and the dual pull rings will match. The black hardware against the white door is striking and screams CONTEMPORARY! www.onekingstreet.com
