How to calculate what size barn door you need.

In the document to the left we have illustrated the correct way to figure out what size barn door you will need to properly cover your doorway opening. If your doorway has door casing (trim) around the perimeter and you want your barn door to cover the casing when it is closed, measure the width from the outer edges of the casing. We suggest, as stated in the illustration, that 2 inches is added to the opening width and height when calculating what size barn door you will need. Using this method, you will maximize privacy and sound insulation from one room to the other when the barn door is closed. In order to properly "park" (fully open) your barn door, you must have wall space on either side of the opening that at least equals the width of the barn door.
